Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors
So this afternoon I had my first Eastern European Cimema class. At first it was a little scary because I was the only one in the class when he started to teach then 7 more students came in but that was all. Ok well pretty much just watched a movie and left, but not just any old movie. The way the Professor described it was that it was a 1964 Ukrainian Romeo and Juliet. So it did not sound too bad. I must say however that it looked like it could of been romeo and Juliet story in the first 45 minutes but from then on I have no idea what i was watching. Yes they were speaking in Russian and yes there were subtitles so the professor said. The subtitles only existed in about 30% of the movie the rest i was just guessing what they were saying. Oh and don't think for one second that the subtitles were of any help. A direct quote from the subtitles would be "People drink and mess around all the time, but praise God anyways." This occured right after a naked women was running around in the field. So i guess if any one wants to know the story of Ivanka and Marichka look up Teni Zabytykh Predkov by Sergei Paradzhanov. This is going to be a looooong class because next week were are watching the best film to ever come out of the soviet union, it will only last 3 hours. I can not wait!!! Did I mention my teacher speaks very very broken english.
